Name: Rudyard Sedgewick
Age: 25
Occupation: Healer, St Mungo's
Appearance (optional):
Personality:
Rudyard is always thinking. He’s an observer; he watches what happens around him and takes it in silently most often, learning from what he sees. He’s a skeptic, but he’s also very reflective. On the outside, this may not be apparent; he seems like he’s indifferent for the most part, but he’s not. Rudyard just believes that it is best to speak only when its beneficial, otherwise, he stays quiet. He has a sort of lopsided grin and smirk and is a nice enough sort of person, but he hates fake people, provocative and/or scantily clad women and sleazy people. Injustice makes his blood boil, and he despises people who think they’re better than others.
He enjoys all sorts of muggle sports and loves the winter. Rudyard is an avid athlete both for enjoyment and to let off steam. He jogs a lot and lifts weights to stay fit, though he does eat enough to keep himself energized. He doesn’t bother with people who are snobby or rude, he doesn’t believe it’s worth the effort. He plays loads of Quidditch, loves to fly and enjoys reading poetry, though you wouldn’t know it just by looking at him. He enjoys his alone time, and spends most of it doing the things he loves, all the while contemplating or thinking about things. If he sees someone being oppressed or ill-treated, he will step in without hesitation, which can sometimes land him into trouble.
History:
Rudyard was born on February 14th in beautiful Whistler, British Columbia in Canada. His parents Christopher and Eva Sedgewick had been living in Canada for a few years and Rudyard spent his childhood up until the ripe age of 10 in the beautiful country. At that time however, his parents moved back to England, thus Rudyard spent one year in England before being accepted at Hogwarts. He didn't like England much, the weather was nowhere near as exciting as in Canada, and besides, Canada had been his home, but Hogwarts was a good change for him in a way; it took away from the homesickness. He still keeps in touch with his best friend Patrick back home and he and his family visited Canada every summer, staying there and returning a week before he was to return to Hogwarts for the fall. Rudyard does not have any brothers or sisters, but that does not mean he was spoiled; his parents brought him up with responsibility, care and a heavy emphasis on moral and ethical good. He's also been taught to be independent and think for himself.
He is a half blood, his father Christopher is a muggle born while his mother, Eva is not, though she has some muggles and squibs in her family. Rudyard has been brought up to respect all sorts of people and creatures, regardless of what they look like or where they come from. Rudyard himself looks a lot like his mother, but his personality is much like his father's. He is calm, observant and analytical and his relatives often joke that he got the 'best of both world' when it came to inheriting things from his parents. Rudyard never felt the pains of not having siblings because he and his best friend Patrick Jamal were thick as theives since before they could even walk. Needless to say, that hasn't changed much. Patrick learned from a young age that you cherish what you can and what matters, and don't get too attached to things that are materialistic and fleeting. A good friendship means a lot to Rudyard.
During the sorting ceremony, Rudyard had just barely sat on the stool, the hat set atop his head, when it yelled out "GRYFFINDOR!" Funny thing was, Rudyard did not really care which house he ended up in. Once again, his parents had taught him it didn't matter, so the house-anxiety most of the pre-sorted first years felt was alien to Rudyard; he didn't care. In any case, the boisterous welcome he received from the Gryffindor table seemed promising, so he made his way over and has been a true lion since. Nonetheless, the close bond he shared with his parents would not change, and he writes home often, once a week at least to check up on his parents. He also writes back to Patrick and several of his other friends from time to time. He made friends at Hogwarts, but once again, he chooses them wisely.
