This leads up to the seventh floor.

Sawyer walked along the empty hallway. There was hardly every anyone on this floor, which made sense. There really was nothing up here except for a couple of bathrooms. Sawyer wondered if the paintings up here ever got bored with the lack of company or if they preferred it that way. She reached the marble staircase and sat down on one of the steps. She was wearing her casual outfit today, it was Saturday after all. She wore black skinny jeans and a tight zip up jacket that reached only about half way down her torso, underneath she had on a dark green shirt.
She pulled a roll out of her pocket that she had taken from lunch and bit into it. It was unlike Sawyer to pull off a piece first in order to look more lady like, she just wanted to eat her roll, was that so much to ask. She sat with her knees together and her feet apart and she rested an elbow on her knees as she ate, sighing out of boredom. There wasn't even anything to steal up here, just dirt...

Edward had been coming down from the seventh floor, on his way to the grounds, when he had to use the bathroom. The sixth floor conveniently held a bathroom and so he had made use of the facilities, and was now about to make his way down the stairs, when he spotted someone sitting on the marble staircase. It was a girl by the looks of it, and he wondered momentarily what she was doing on the sixth floor. Perhaps she had also taken a break here, stopping on her way to somewhere more important. Not that Edward had been going anywhere important - he was just going to get some fresh air before dinner.
He cleared his throat so he wouldn't startle her, and spoke. "Hey," he said calmly, scratching the back of his head then letting his hand fall to his side, before jamming both hands in his pockets. Upon closer inspection he realized it was Sawyer, a Gryffindor girl who wasn't in his year. She was in sixth, or fifth - he was unsure. He leaned against the marble railign which lined the hallway, adjacent to the actual staircase where Sawyer sat. "Everything alright?" he asked finally.

"Hey."
Sawyer looked up as she heard someone clear their throat and then speak. She looked up to see someone she faintly recognized, she knew he was a Hufflepuff but had no idea of his name. Sawyer didn't take the time to remember people's names. "Hey." She replied, leaning back with her elbows on the staircase. She crossed one leg over the other and began to slowly bounce it.
"Everything alright?"
Sawyer gave him a confused look. "Yeah.... why?" She asked, wondering if she looked upset. She then shrugged. "I'm just bored out of mind. What about you..." she was about to add his name when she remembered that she didn't know it and ended up improvising, "....buddy..." she finished, in a way that was obvious that she just didn't know what his name was.

"Yeah.... why?"
Edward shrugged. It was an odd idea to be sitting on the sixth floor staircase. I mean nothing really happened here, besides the occasional flush of a toilet in the distance. "Strange palce to be sitting is all." he replied nonchalantly.
"I'm just bored out of mind. What about you..." she was about to add his name when she remembered that she didn't know it and ended up improvising, "....buddy..."
He raised an eyebrow. "Edward Fleet, Hufflepuff," he said calmly responding the the unspoken question. "I'm in the same boat for the most part. Was on my way to the grounds for fresh air before dinner, not much else to do" he replied to the other question. Edward reached his arms above his head and stretched before resting them on the railing, using one finger to trace the designs on the marble. There were names etched into it. Vandalism, Edward hated it. Edward was a principled, if friendly person. He came off as a bit of a chum; laid back, friendly and whatnot. But he had an idea of what was right and what was wrong. He wished to himself that Quidditch practice hadn't been cancelled.

"Strange place to be sitting is all."
Sawyer shrugged, she hadn't really thought about it, but supposed that he was right. She finished her roll in one large bite and only looked up again when he said his name. Edward...cute. She scanned him over once, not really trying to hide, though not intentionally being obvious either, though it might come across that way. "Nice name." She smiled and stood, leaning against the railing.
"I'm in the same boat for the most part. Was on my way to the grounds for fresh air before dinner, not much else to do."
Sawyer pushed her long blonde hair behind her shoulders. "That's the truth... why are Saturday's so boring? Shouldn't they be fun..." She asked, not really expecting an answer. She then realized that he said he was about to go down to the grounds. "Was I in your way?" She looked down at where she had been sitting, he had plenty of space to walk by. She raised her eyebrows suspiciously. So why did he stop? Sawyer was often suspicious of people and their intentions.

"Nice name."
He noticed her looking him over and he ignored it, pretending not to notice. "Thanks. My mum chose it," he said jovially, "And you are..?" he asked, even though he thought her name was Sawyer. You never could be sure. Besides, it was polite.
"That's the truth... why are Saturday's so boring? Shouldn't they be fun..."
"I suppose they are. I was supposed to have Quidditch practice, but that got cancelled." he said with a lopsided grin. He loved Quidditch and flying and whatnot. Perhaps he'd go out and practice on the Pitch or something. It wasn't the same without your team, though, he thought to himself. He knew they'd be playign Gryffindor next. The two houses got along well, but Quidditch was Quidditch: he wodnered how the match would go.
"Was I in your way?" She raised her eyebrows suspiciously.
"No, but you looked down and out," he said with a shrug. It was in his nature to care. He made no motion to move from where he leaned against the railing though. "I wasn't in a hurry or anything, just killing time," he repeated when she glanced at him suspiciously, which he thought was odd. Edward was hardly suspicious of people, but he was a rather aware individual. Besides, given the times they were facing, he understood why people may be suspicious. Maybe he'd go to the library? He glanced at his watch.. dinner was in half an hour. Perhaps he should study? He was mulling these things over in his head, and raked a hand through his short hair. "S'pose by the time I get around to doing anything complicated it'll be dinner time.:" he said.

"No, but you looked down and out,"... "I wasn't in a hurry or anything, just killing time,"
Sawyer thought about it for a moment and then accepted his answer. She nodded and smiled at him. "Okay, cool." She always liked to meet new people. It was always interesting to her how people behaved so differently. There were good people and bad people and some in between people. You never really knew what to expect when you first met someone.
"I'm Sawyer." She replied to his question. Sawyer never ever gave people her first name, no matter how much she trusted them. She did wonder how many people knew that Sawyer was her last name and not her first name, seeing as it could go both ways. "Well, I'm glad you stopped." She finally admitted. "I was really bored." She winked and looked around the hall, still empty.
She couldn't think of much to say, Sawyer was not really very good at conversation so she brought up the first thing that came to her mind. "Did you hear about the dueling club?"

"Okay, cool."
The girl seemed to relax visibly. Seemed that Edward had passed the test. He knew he wasn't the creepy sort, people usually caught on quite quickly that Edward was harmless, and quite amiable. He smiled and ran his fingers through his short hair. It was a habit.
"I'm Sawyer." She replied to his question. "Well, I'm glad you stopped." She finally admitted. "I was really bored."
"Pleased to meet you Sawyer," he said nodding his head at her. he raised his eyebrows when she said she was glad he stopped. "Guess I made the right choice then, eh?" he said with a chuckle.
"Did you hear about the dueling club?"
"Yeah, sure did." Edward replied glancing at the web of stirs below. He suddenly remembered sliding down banisters when he was a kid. Imagine the rush of doing that here.. only you could die since the staircases didn't cooperate. he broguht himself back tot he conversation, continuing. "Signed up too. It'll come in handy. I bet they won't be using anythign beyond NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts materials. There's some rough stuff though..' he said. Edward was currently taking his NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts and knew how hard it was. "Did you join?" he asked her, glancing in her direction.

Sawyer followed his gaze down the staircase and wondered what he was thinking about, but when he spoke again she returned her attention to him. "Yeah, I did... It better be all that's it's cracked up to be though. I would hate for it to just be a waste of time. I normally wouldn't... but circumstances being as they may, it would be faster and easier if I didn't have to figure it out on my own..." She looked around again and started to bite on her nails.
"We could start heading down to dinner if you want." Her stomach growled in response. "I suspect it will take us a while to get down to the dining hall from up here anyway, we should be right on time..."

Edward nodded, "Yeah, I suppose they'll be going nowhere further than Seventh Year Defense Against the Dark Arts material," he explained then added, "I'm taking it now, its got some pretty complicated things, but they're useful," he added. "It's good what they're doing. This way we can practice on each other in a controlled environment. I wonder who the staff advisor is.." he added the last bit more to himself.
"We could start heading down to dinner if you want." Her stomach growled in response. "I suspect it will take us a while to get down to the dining hall from up here anyway, we should be right on time..."
"Sounds like a plan. My stomach seems like a bottomless pit today," he said with a lopsided grin as he walked around tot he stairs and waited for her to go first. "So, what have they been teaching you in sixth for Defense Against the Dark Arts? Have you worked on the confundus charm yet?" he asked.

"Sounds like a plan. My stomach seems like a bottomless pit today,"
Sawyer stood and headed to the stairs, allowing him to let her go first, though normally she would have been a little bit skeptical, she was really hungry. So she stepped onto the staircase first and made sure he was following her before she continued walking.
"So, what have they been teaching you in sixth for Defense Against the Dark Arts? Have you worked on the confundus charm yet?"
"Actually, we just started the confundus charm. We've just gone over the root of where it came from. I think we'll get to start practicing it next time we have class." She smiled. It was nice to have someone to talk to. And she was impressed by his seventh year knowledge. "What is your favorite charm that you've learned so far?"

He grinned, "Ah, you'll have fun with that one. If you're lucky, you'll get to practice on each other at some point. Thats always buckets of fun." he said with a light laugh.
"What is your favorite charm that you've learned so far?"
"Hmm.. I'd say protego or incarcerous. Protego, because you can protect the people around you, and incarcerous, because the ropes bind the person to make them immobile, but doesn't really hurt them, just in case you've hexed the wrong person." he said then shook his head, "But its hard to pick a favourite, really.. What about you?"

Sawyer thought about. "Hmm... It really is hard to choose huh? I think that I will really like the patronus charm, but we haven't even begun that one yet... I think that I'll really like the confundus charm. I also like the avifors charm.... pretty pointless, but fun nonetheless." She grinned.
Just at the moment she stepped onto the trick stair and felt her body lurch forward. She put her hands out to try and stop the fall, but she felt her knees smack against the granite and yelped in pain. Luckily one foot was stuck though. She glanced up at Edward and started laughing. Sawyer didn't often get embarrassed, it was easier to laugh at yourself, life didn't have to be so serious.
