It was a rather dark night; one of those nights that were so dark, so black, with clouds so dark, it seemed the sky was an inky expanse, a void that would swallow you whole. Not a single star could be seen, and a light, chilly, autumn wind blew across the grounds at Hogwarts. One might find it odd, then, that Edward was standing by the Large window in the astronomy tower, looking out at the dark grounds enveloped in shadow, and the starless sky. He wore a black hoodie over a yellow t-shirt, and black pants. He also wore his black sneakers, and the hood of his hoodie was pulled over his sandy brown hair. Dark brown eyes studied the sky... he had known he couldn't work on his astronomy tonight, but he'd needed a reason to get out of the common room, and astronomy was a good enough reason to get past the professors.
His astronomy paraphernalia now lay strewn on the floor next to him, neglected, as he stared out at the dark, foreboding sky. A strange sense of calm settled over him, though the air around him felt charged.. electric almost. Just then, the hairs on the back of his neck stood as he sensed someone approaching. His hand closed around his wand in his pocket, but he did not extract it. To fire, or not to fire... he chose not to, and instead turned around to see who or what it was.

Kathleen was restless. She couldn't have said why. Yes, there were the Death Eaters and her persistent lack of a boyfriend and her equally persistent failure to make the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. There was even her genuine sorrow for the Muggle victims of Wizarding violence. Yet all those problems had beset her last night and the night before that. Tonight didn't have to be different so a reason. Kathleen was simply restless.
She had wandered to the Astronomy Tower for the view. She wanted to stand at the great window and look out over the vast, sprawling grounds, illuminated by the soft kiss of the moon. She was surprised to find someone else here. Panicking, she reached for her wand. "Incarcerous!"
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, she shouted the spell before her wand was level. Rope shoots from her wand and wraps tightly around her own thighs, her own knees, her own ankles, sending her sprawling to the ground. She looks up with a keen blush. "Um...Sorry, Edward. I didn't expect to see you here."

"Incarcerous!"
Edward's reflexes were quick, he spun around, "Exp.." he started to say when he saw that the person had cast the spell on themselves. An amused look, combined with a startled one fell upon his face. He stepped a little closer to the person, trying to make out who it was. "Kathleen?" he asked, even though he knew it was her.
"Um...Sorry, Edward. I didn't expect to see you here."
"And I didn't expect to..well, here, let me help you," he said as he removed the ropes and helped her up. "Are you okay?" he asked with a smile, still half amused at what had happened. "Don't fret over it, happens to the best of us," he said motioning to the severed ropes laying on the floor. "What brings you up here? Not exactly a night for stargazing, is it?' he said casting a look at the inky black sky.

She lets him help her up, regaining her feet. "I'm alright. I was just restless tonight. How about you?"

Edward raked a hand through his hair awkwardly, "Look, don't worry about it," he said with an embarassed smirk. He had a way of feeling bad for people who felt embarassed. "Seriously, just forget about it eh."
"I'm alright. I was just restless tonight. How about you?"
He glanced at his abandoned astronomy stuff to the side. "Err.. Astronomy?" he said with a lopsided grin. "Actually.. just felt a little antsy myself. Needed to get out of the common room." he paused. "How are things?" he asked finally.

"They're going well," Kathleen said. "A little boring, actually, but that might be a good thing." She smiled faintly. "So how is everything with you? It seems like it's been a very long time."

"They're going well," Kathleen said. "A little boring, actually, but that might be a good thing."
He raked a hand through his sandy brown hair, "Yeah, could be a good thing. Then again, sometimes when things are too quiet. The calm or lull before the storm." he looked at the calm, dark night out the window, surprised by how fitting his metaphor was.
"So how is everything with you? It seems like it's been a very long time."
"It has been, since Halloween or Christmas last year" He said looking back at her with a grin. "I've been alright, can't complain." he spoke with a slight Canadian accent, due to his upbringing in a Canadian household. "A little antsy.. about the future, plans...life. Once again, the whole calm before the storm thing. I just don't want everything to come at me out of left field." he shrugged and glanced at her again. He could tell there was more that was bothering Kathleen than necessarily met the eye. "Tell me, Kathleen, is there anything the matter?" he asked at last.
