The hairless cat – Percy had named him Hephaestus immediately after purchase – was reclining in one of Percy’s crooked arms as he pushed his way into Obscurus Books. He was immediately assaulted by a cloud of dust. He stood coughing in the doorway for a moment, while Hephaestus watched him through his wide pale eyes.
When Percy had recovered, he stepped farther into the shop. He let his eyes wander over the towering shelves of old books. He walked over to one shelf, but once he found himself running his fingers along the spines of the books, he stepped back. He wasn’t here to shop. He had a job to do.
Percy walked up to the withered old woman, standing behind the counter. He held out the fliers describing the fugitive Death Eaters and gave his speech. The woman gave Hephaestus an odd look. The cat just yawned in response and hid his naked head against Percy’s chest.
“If you see any suspicious behavior, please report it to the Ministry by owl,” finished Percy, gesturing to the fliers that were now clasped in the woman’s wrinkled hands. “We will respond as quickly as we can.” A bit of dust worked its way into Percy's nose and he sneezed, startling Hephaestus out of a doze. When he was done sneezing, he noticed a lovely blue and gold book sitting on the counter. He knew he should spend his hard earned galleons on more practical things, but... He pushed the book toward the salesman. "I'll take this as well." It was on sale, after all.
