Name: Melora Jane Devlin
Occupation: Journalist for the Daily Prophet
Age: 22
House: Former Hufflepuff.
Blood Status: Comes from a Wizarding family but is not a Pureblood.
Wand: Cherrywood, 9 1/3, swishy with a core of Ashwinder Ash.
Appearance: Melora is on the short side, standing at 5’3” with curly brown hair and brown eyes. She can often be found chewing at her lower lip and has a tendency to shift from foot to foot while addressing her superiors.
Personality: On the spectrum of reporters, there are two extremes—on one side you will find Rita Skeeter, vicious and fantastic at her trade, and, on the other, you will find Melora Devlin. Meek and decidedly unambitious, Melora has yet to produce one decent article. She is not what one would call a go-getter, but rather a wait-and-see-if-my-dreams-mosey-their-way-onto-my-door-step. That said, she is easily riled and, while she may not confront you face-to-face, she’ll have a few choice words to mutter as she walks away.
History:
Born in the London suburb Barnes to Richard Devlin and Cordelia Adelborough, both who were members of the Wizengamot, Melora often found herself floating between quiet Barnes and the ever-hectic London. Her childhood was average—unusually so for a Witch—and, when Melora did not show any sign of magical ability, her parents began to fear the worst. However, at age five, while attending a Muggle daycare, the reclusive Melora retaliated against several grubby-cheeked bullies by making bottles of paint explode in their faces during arts and crafts. Though most parents would not describe their emotions as “elated” following an angry phone call from a Daycare supervisor, Melora’s parents could not have been prouder.
At age seven, Melora lost her mother to a Muggle car accident. Utterly distraught, Richard Devlin packed up his and Melora’s possessions and sold their home in Barnes, resettling permanently within the Wizarding World. Retiring from the Wizengamot, Richard took to raving about the dangers of the Muggle world, claiming that their blithe disregard for life would destroy the Wizarding World. Poisoned by her father’s beliefs, Melora is likewise afraid of the Muggle world.
During her years at Hogwarts, Melora put all of her effort into her studies. Unfortunately, her studying left little room for friend-making and Melora often found herself very lonely. However, during her Fifth Year, her hard work paid off and Melora became a Hufflepuff prefect. With this new and somewhat respected status, Melora found a handful of good friends, making her last three years at Hogwarts far better than the preceding four.
Post-Hogwarts, Melora found herself with very few job opportunities. Yes, she had done quite well in school and she had likewise done well on her exams, but Melora was not interested in joining the Ministry or a similar profession. Instead, Melora worked several odd jobs in hopes of finding her niche.
Presently, Melora is an intern for the Daily Prophet. Though Melora has a knack for writing, she lacks the sort of boisterous attitude that gets an up-and-comer noticed. In fact, Melora is very much in danger of being sacked. Unless she conjures up a good story soon, Melora will have found yet one more profession she has no future in.
